I love ponies!
As a “vertically challenged” individual who rode and showed ponies competitively on the “A” Circuit in my youth, I was disheartened when I returned to the sport eight years ago and tried to find a suitable pony for my daughter, “L. R.”. The price of made ponies had grown astronomically. It was now virtually impossible for the average family to find and afford a pony that could be a great at-home friend and still be competitive at the horse shows.

Almost as distressing was the fact that many breeders, in hopes of creating a “fancier” type show pony, had succeeded in breeding ponies that were so hot and high strung that they were really only appropriate for “professional pony jockeys” - children with highly advanced riding skills. The temperament and price tag on these ponies made them suitable only for the show ring as most were too nervous or too valuable to be used for anything else.

But I also remembered a time - “back in the old days” - when ponies were designed to be a child’s best friend; to be played with, dressed up, trail ridden....simply enjoyed. That’s what I grew up with and that’s what I wanted for my daughter. After all, most children only attend a few horse shows each season - what should they do with their ponies the rest of the time?!

However, in searching for ponies, I found my choices limited to the very expensive, very fancy show pony or the very plain, often less talented backyard type pony that, although kind hearted, would be completely outclassed in the show ring. There had to be a middle ground!!

There is. These is the type of ponies we specialize in. Ponies that will hold their own on those special days in the show ring and that can be counted on to provide safe, dependable companionship the rest of the time. Ponies that have been thoroughly “kid-proofed.” Ponies that have been to the A shows and won. Ponies that are are up to any adventure a child can dream of....and at a price that won’t wipe out your child’s college fund!

After all, isn’t that what a pony ought to be?

And now that my daughter is grown and off to college, I am thrilled that our ponies are being ridden, trained and shown by some of the hardest working and most talented young "pony jocks" in the Midwest: Ryan, Kevin and Matthew Sassmannshausen of Kinvarra Farms. Following in our long-standing tradition of producing kid-proofed ponies, these young riders help ensure that our ponies will be ready for your child. Watch for them at shows from Illinois to Florida!
